About Body Properties

This topic describes the following properties for bodies:

Body category

A body conforms to rules depending on the body category.

Value

Definition

Basic solid

Bodies created in the regular modeling environment.

Sheet metal

Body created in the Sheetmetal Design application, or converted from a basic solid body.

Lattice

Body that results from the Lattice feature.

Generated

Generated body results from the Generative Design application.

Geometry type

Most Creo features create B-rep (boundary representation) geometry. Some applications and features can create other types of geometry.

Value

Definition

Boundary representation (B-rep)

Body that contains only B-rep geometry.

Mixed representation

Body that contains geometry other than B-rep, or multiple geometry types, like geometry that can be created in:

Lattice features

Generative Design application

Owned by

A body is owned by the feature or by the user.

Value

Definition

Feature

Body that was created as a result of feature action. These bodies are automatically deleted if no feature is using them. Examples:

Split Body

Merge/Inheritance when you add geometry

Copy Geometry with body objects selected

Import

User

Body that was explicitly created by the user. User-owned bodies remain in the model even when no feature contributes geometry to them. They can only be deleted by explicit command by the user.

The automatic first body in a model is considered a user-owned body.

Body state

Each body has a state that is derived from features and geometry.

Value

Definition

Contains geometry

The body has geometry, and there are features that contribute this geometry to the body.

No geometry

All the geometry of the body was cut away by other features.

No contributing features

No features contribute geometry to this body.

Consumed

A body whose geometry was entirely removed or transferred to another body by a feature. You cannot reference the body or add new geometry to it. It does not contribute to mass properties.

Construction body

Value

Definition

Construction body

This body does not participate in mass properties calculations and other analyses like interference analysis or collision detection. Setting a body to construction is reversible.

Default body

Value

Definition

, , , Default body

One of the bodies in the model is assigned as the default body by the system. This designation is temporary, until another action changes it.

This body appears by default in the body collector in the next feature that adds or cuts geometry. You can override the system and set the default body manually. The default body is marked with a star.
